About Me
I’m Fred Deutsch, a school board member from Watertown, South Dakota. I’m a passionate education and child advocate. During a lobbying trip to Washington DC, I was inspired by a few school board members from other parts of the country that blog with their constituents. Hence, “School-of-Thought” was born (my witty wife came up with the name).
School-of-Thought is a place where I record the things that roll around in my head about education as I read, listen, talk and observe. Some of my posts deal with local issues, others with state, national or international concerns — all from the perspective of a local school board member. And because what happens in Pierre and Washington DC directly impact the lives of our children here in Watertown, some of my posts are distinctly political.
As a school board member I participate in establishing policy. For me to do that job well depends on the honest input of both educators and parents. I particularly look forward to comments, suggestions and constructive criticism — anything that will help us create a better school and do a better job.
Please feel free to dialog — agree, disagree, enlighten me with your opinion, or just say hello.
Oh, one more thing that’s important, please understand that everything on this blog is solely my opinion. Nothing expressed here necessarily represents the opinion of anyone else in the school district or anyone else serving on the school board.
